S24(7) Build 3400

Beta Release Update

This Beta has been more about syncing with Linden Lab code and clearing out bugs than bolting on new bells and whistles. The core now moves past 2026.3, and the most noticeable changes are the login flow and some updated fonts.

Fixes include:

  • A stutter caused by being far too gentle with cache purging when RAM cache wasn’t in use
  • A menu clash involving keybinds
  • Several dead code paths finally retired

The core libraries for Chromium, VLC, and WebRTC have all been refreshed to their latest versions — which naturally brings in the updated voice moderation and stats systems as well.

The biggest headache by far has been the sweeping changes in the compiler and toolchain. It’s been… character‑building. Lots of code checks for leaks, floating‑point precision loss, truncation, and other fun surprises.

Features (Such As They Are)

This upheaval has put a bit of a damper on adding or reshaping features. There are the snapshot improvements, the audio enhancements, and a handful of other highlights — but the real takeaway from this rough patch is the absolutely essential need to keep grinding through the dull stuff.

On the bright side, a few people have shared credible comparison screenshots: same location, different clients. The difference in vibrance and detail between S24 and others is surprisingly stark. When you’re driving the code every day, you don’t always notice the incremental gains — and to be fair, the final render depends on so many components that each change can feel like a tiny cog in the Second Life machine.

A Little Breathing Room

I’ve also managed to sneak in a bit of inworld time — visiting destinations, picking up some art, and chatting with some genuinely lovely residents along the way.

It’s a long weekend here in the UK, so enjoy the build — and maybe I’ll see you inworld.

Much Love,
KL
