S24 - Develpoment Cycle

 Well Hello!

It's been a while :) For those that happen to keep tabs on SF I have been busy as of late. So after much time and doing other things I have kicked off a round of new builds, S24 will be the future client and we will see where it goes.

Currently in alpha there will be little difference from S23 well I say little difference externally yes, internally lots, built on windows 11 SDK, 24H2 no legacy directX requirements, toolchain now VS2022 and build scripts now all written for Python 3+, introducing up to date core libraires and general spring cleaning.

Infact for those brave enough a build from scratch requires only 3 things , VS2022, Python 3+ and Cmake all 64bit. If you wish to keep tabs on the progress regular builds will be dropped onto source forge.

These will not be the default download! you will have to manually select it.

Current Install is S24 alpha 1 - build 1780

There is still much to do and this will be a long long road to a final release, however for those brave souls that wish to play along I will keep posting builds as they come off the press :) Oh and it uses its own cache and settings folders so it wont stomp on S23 or any other viewer for that matter.

Well thats all for now, onwards!

Love KL.

  2. I finally got an up to date computer and was able to install S24 without a hitch. I really enjoy the anaglyph mode. I've been using a Quest 3s headset with Virtual Desktop, and the Virtual Desktop app has an anaglyph viewing mode that makes the need for glasses obsolete.
I've also been trying out the FirestormOS-VR-GHA viewer, which gives me a very immersive VR experience, but also adds its own level of problems.
Between anaglyph and VR, I must say that the best experience is immersive VR, but the anaglyph mode is much easier to use.
I'd recommend incorporating a VR mode, but just swishing it about in my head I can see it would mean a lot of work.
