S24(8) Build 4100 Alpha 1.3
Alpha 1.3: KRLV, Media Player and More
Hello everyone, and thank you, as always, for sticking with the project. This release is a big one: it comes packed with new features and fixes, and chief among them is the very first version of KRLV.
This is likely to be the final alpha before I start locking in the feature set, so it felt like a good moment to walk through what's new and where things are heading.
Introducing KRLV
KRLV makes its debut in this build. At this stage it's very much here for testing rather than full-time use, so please treat it as a preview of what's to come rather than a finished feature.
That said, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think. If something feels off, breaks, or could simply work better, please let me know. Your suggestions on how to improve it will directly shape where it goes next.
Rendering fixes
A round of render fixes has caught several crash scenarios, which should make for a noticeably more stable experience. On top of that, SMAA and CAS now work properly in DirectX, so anti-aliasing and sharpening should look exactly as intended.
The Media Player
The new Media Player lets you listen to streams or play your own MP3s from the comfort of the viewer, wherever you happen to be. Whether you want some background music while you explore or a favourite station while you build, it's all right there without leaving the viewer.
A word of warning for DXVK users
If you're running DXVK, please do not tear off or pop out the chat window into an external window. Vulkan does not take kindly to it and will, quite literally, self-immolate.
The external chat window is a DirectX-only feature for now. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and I'll keep an eye on it going forward.
One more thing: MondyCam
I almost forgot! There's one special addition in this release: MondyCam. The camera controls are now 43 percent smaller, giving you a little more of the world and a little less of the interface.
The road ahead
With this alpha, I plan to begin locking in the feature set. From here, the push to beta will be all about refinement: bug fixing, tuning, and polishing what's already there rather than adding more.
By the time we reach the release candidate, I'm hopeful we'll have a very tidy viewer indeed. Your feedback along the way makes a real difference, so please keep it coming.
Full changelog and KRLV deep dive
For the complete changelog and an in-depth look at KRLV, please see the README on GitHub, or the copy included with the installer. The methods, commands and design are all laid out there in (perhaps painful) detail.
Thank you again for your support and patience. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Much respect.
KL.
Can't believe you called the smaller camera control Mondycam! haha. That's hilariously awesome. Thanks for seeing my comment on Sourceforge. I downloaded the viewer & saw the new cam before I read this so it made me laugh hard! hugs.
