What are you up to Kirsten?

Oh hello! I know... you spotted the SVN snapshot builds on SF? Yes that... LYSI?

Old Norse for light, which is appropriate, because this is the build where I shine a torch into the engine and start poking things just to see what twitches :)

If VETR is the sensible 2026.1 (default), LYSI is me flooring it. less official patches, no safety! A couple of testers get the drops.Fearless or reckless. Hard to tell. (you know who you are).

The chaos engine

  • 3D Anaglyph rebuilt Faster, cleaner, new positional mode, toe‑in camera version retired.

  • OpenCL experiments Early days, already misbehaving nicely.

  • Shadows: texel compression Distance‑based updates, movement triggers realtime, partial refresh. Only the texels that matter get attention. The rest can sleep. (tweakable from low level settings)

  • Render Hot Path latency fixes CPU and GPU both got a stern talking‑to.

  • Build system overhaul Python gone, KV scripts everywhere, CMake rebuilt, vcpkg and much more effcient and agressive compiling.

  • Windowing code now aware of modern hardware quirks ie: 3DvCache / P-Cores / Thread Priority was LL actually gave me the nudge on this.

  • Viewer stats based on actual GPU‑displayed frames. If the GPU didn’t show it, it doesn’t count.

  • Shader + render tweaks plenty. Some elegant, some questionable, all intentional.

Will any of this ship?

Maybe. Maybe not. LYSI exists so I can break things, rebuild them, and see what survives the fire.

Now a final word of warning, these clients are not production, no seriously I mean that. Let me repeat that these are NOT release builds in any shape or form.

Much Love,

KL
