Old Times :)

For a nice interlude I thought it might be fun to have a little trip down memory lane :)

A little history of Kirsten in SL! So as with all storybooks lets begin at the start :). I have dug into the archives and pulled a few snaps and screen captures from the more than two decades on the platform.

SL Population circa 600, credit card required!

Me in the fetching Purple Hair 2004 ish .... actually might be earlier crude pose dates it to about then. The conversation LSL (naturally) and using scripting to break the altitude limit, yes that was a thing.

This one is an important date, this is a linux client the day before the Opensource announcment.

And after a few weeks Kirstens Viewer is Born! Check out that website :D with the handsome Hamlet front and centre!

By November 2007 heavier modification begins - proto purple skin. The font is rather questionable :)

By July 2008 - SD2 becomes a very early shadow client. Would be many years later before it became a standard feature.

And late Nov 2008 brings the first BIG viewer S16

Imprudence later to become Kokua - and pre snowglobe SL client.

Above is Dazzle. Feb 2008! Ahh snowglobe opensource started to get more widespread.

1.22 - Mcore (Circa Jul 2008) this was a experiment in multi threading and was a first stab at tailoring a client to strong hardware. It was also at this time that SL was booming and so were the clients with Emerald and other viewers being popular. And due to some .. ahem issues the need for some regulation in the form of a TPV was on the horizon.
A lot of wild experimenting and growing pains.

Meanwhile on an Opensim Grid.......

January 2010 this viewer might seem a little out of place but its the grand daddy of the modern Kirsten Viewer, it became S17/18 and 19 , and also formed the basis of the realextend viewer. Note the Verdigris Windlight made originally by a resident and added to Kirstens viewer. on Sourceforge this is commit number 1 !

S18 - Febuary 2010

S20 - Wildly Unpopular V2 client , May 2010. But the visuals.....

SL was starting to really look great, this was a loading page from the viewer.

By 2010/11 the client had been on the TPV for a while, my SL and RL partner was suffering with poor health at this point the develpoment was becoming increasingly difficult.

Time is a great healer as they say and after a long time in the background coding starts again here is the moment that S22 starts getting an overhaul being the first new viewer based off the final S21. Its early 2017.

April 2017 and the first V3 , 3D built viewer is born there have been over 1225 steps between this and the first commit on sourceforge. And with growing good fortune I re-join the TPV list.

The Rest of the History in part resides in this blog! so here we are 2025..
Kirsten March 2025... SL Resident and Part Time Coder :D

Much Love,

KL
