Unholy Union..

Ok question time... what do you get if Kirsten has one of her moments and you take an S17 and crossbreed with a render-pipeline and a snowglobe? Thats correct! The bastard child produced is S18. Obviously this has the occasional bug... I shit you not! However alpha is working for the most part in shadow, so are avatar shadows again not perfect but better. Course it gets the Http-get stuff, a tad unstable here and there, as you would expect from such a mongrel viewer.
It does however grab some whopping framerates in shadows! My partner on a 3870 from ATI was pushing upwards of 26fps in the SD pipeline.
So if your the adventurous type an early version of S18 if on the ftp for a tryout ( it can be installed side by side to s17 ) remember that this is a very early build. And like shadowdraft brought out over a year ago this bugger can bite back!
Best Wishes,
KL
PS.
Just posted Build 202 , 2 more patches and the remember password issue is fixed ^^
PPS. Added the neat patch for the worn items tab , Why is it not in an official viewer??

I love it. I haven't yet used the shadow features. I checked what i expected in the preferences, but didn't go to the debug settings yet. I shot a bunch of high rez shots at sl6b some with renderfarclip set to 2000m. They are on my fliker (search my name). I used the viewer today shooting a wedding. Not one crash saving png format at 3056X2252. the only problem I had was several times my frame rate and bandwidth dropped in the ditch 2<. A relog cured the problem. This happend several times when the sim was full. When the avatar load lightened up this didn't happen again. I have no idea if its viewer related or not, but i have never had this experience with this viewer or any other until today. I am running win XP on a coreduo @3.5Ghz, 4G ram, nvidia 260.

Absolutely Excellent! Now all you have to do is...

Increase stability in per-pixel shadow mode

See if you can get any more performance out of it.

Perhaps eventually if possible you can modify how SL loads textures into render in order to lower bandwith cost and greatly reduce the terrible lag caused by texture loading as you travel in second life. Quick higher priority lo-fi load and Slow lower priority Hi-Fi Load for textures and the ability to control whether a texture will fully load by how far it is from your camera.

You have made my second life almost livable; thank you kirsten!

Muchas gracias Kirstens, este visor es el mejor de todos los que has hecho. Me obligas a tener instalado Windows (¿para cuando Kirstens para Linux?), Excelente-.

Thank You Kirsten!
Your viewer got so much more stable and fasten up with shadows on my not so fast Nvidia 9800 GT, so now i can move if shadows are enabled.
Your 18th(204) is a real step forward!
i managed to see shaddows on a dual screen, with fat 2800x1020 size :)
But switching AA on kills.
Thanks for the great work :)

Darn, was hoping it had the new Projected Textures feature, still searching my ass off for one, but it seems most people keep it to themselve...

Notification when a friendship ends <- for what Oo?

Avatar Scanner <- same here for what?

o Ability to display chat notifications for entering sim, exiting sim, entering chat range, exiting chat range, entering draw distance and exiting draw distance respectively. <- who is really needing this? i mean cant you life without to know if someone is on this sim or not?

Clothing layer protection (prevents sending of individual clothing textures to other clients, ensuring they can't copy the clothing) <- sure it does but it does also lag! i dont know why nobody will see this Oo

* Detection of cooperating alternative viewers <- is needed because?

* Profiles show agent key <- is not really a must have or not?

* Animation Info Floater <- LOL every viewer still have this
o Shows you all current animations being played on your avatar <- same to here every viewer does have this

some of these features are useable thats right but the most ar not really needed and just does more lag .. i dont know if you guys like the lag <.< .. i dont do it! for what is it useable allways to know if someone is on the sime you mostly dont know? seems a bit voyeuristic hmm? ;)

to the Clothing layer protection ... its a good idea but fpr the price of more lag? sorry but i have enough to fight with the lag without this -.- .. and yes i have tested it! with protection more lag and the avatart hase a higher rendercost so its not just "bla bla" what i say!

@ Kirsten
thanks again to your viewer and your good work! i just use yours since 1.19.4 :)

Totally blown away by the speed of the S18 client - awesome work!

Only one quibble so far - Sculptie shapes don't seem to load as fast. Still working on this aspect or am I missing something in the settings?

Jo Exonar said...

The graphics are lovely and the speed is awesome. I have "yet another" feature request, though. I filed a feature request in Trac. If it's too much hassle I completely understand, thanks for the wonderful, beautiful viewer.

Fantastic viewer!!
Any chance of it being RLV compatible ?

How do you enable the shadows?

One other nice feature I noticed:

On my machine it uses 200-300 mb of RAM, even after 2 hours, where the old client and most LL clients = 700-900 mb of ram easily, this is with 512mb draw distance. So memory management is better.

Okay, first of all-- Let me just say, this is a -great- project, and I've loved every viewer for its speed... of those that worked for me.

However, for some reason, the last several versions of S17 (not sure on specifics, I'm trying to determine which it started with) and all versions of S18 seem to share a common bug- Something's going wrong that's causing my computer to... well, to put it simply, die. The hard drive stops spinning (I hear the death click of the head leaving the platters) and the processor becomes unresponsive, slowing everything, including the mouse, down to a screeching halt. No blue screen, no nothing, just... locks up and dies, doesn't even respond to the power button, I have to unplug it.

Seems to happen at any given time, quite often before the login screen image loads, but sometimes I make it inworld, and it crashes when any strain is applied (e.g. teleporting/flying into a crowd, or sometimes even searching the map). This -only- happens with the latest few of your viewers, not in the official, Release Candidate or Snowglobe viewers. Any ideas, anything you changed that would affect it so early as the login screen? (before I even enter my password; the renderer isn't even initialized, I don't think)

If it's any help, I'm more than willing to do anything you suggest to try to figure it out, but, despite being a complete computer nerd myself, I'm stumped.

all fine on my GTX8800 SLI .. and stable .. one info for you .. MAP does not load in the OSGRID .. suspected: SNOWGLOBE code

best regards

Hello, your viewer is great, tho i'm having a problem with the 2 latest build.

The texture of my clothes dont bake well and still blurred, this happens only with the S18 202-204.

I have a GeForce 7300 with 256 of RAM.

I'm using the Mac port of this viewer.

Everything is fantastic. However the bug that causes the dark lines around the eyes has cropped up again.

Where is the sim in that pic? I love it!

KirstenLee Cinquetti said...

That picture was taken at SL6B sadly the build is now probably gone :(

Franciss Noriega said...

Kristenlee Hello, I have used the version S18, although be fast and have great performance, the textures of the clothes of the avatar are without definition. In the S17 the textures are excellent.
Why is that? Something new to set up? You can tell?

Hugs ;o)

I tried to use the Mac Version on my MacBook Pro, 2,4 Ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo. But it gives me the message that it can not acces one file, and the cause may be that multiple Versions are running. Since this is the first one i downloaded, its not to me to understand.
It wont start, even after restarting. Any ideas how i can get it to run?
I am so curious to see it in action. Please help!

#Anonymous on "Greenlife Emerald Viewer"

Having not view this blog 2 weeks, it has so much new message and development.
What I think kirsten only need to concentrate on shadow stuff. The more code to need handle, the more bugs will increase. Honestly speaking, you list showing us like a promotion advertisement. Those functions are beyond the necessary need. :)
